It wouldn't have made a difference
if I had begged you not to leave
I knew well enough to understand
what was happening to my family.
I stood at the door, my sister next to me.
Waiting and listening.
And when that door opened
I wanted to close it and never let you out.
She creamed at you to leave.
But I wanted you to stay.
And so, I watched and cried
along with my sister as you packed.
I followed you ,
like a puppy,
around the house.
I cut out my picture;
don't forget me.
I watched my family crumble.
I cried over the pieces
Which would no longer fit.
Not like they used to.
